Almost flattened a fox
The animal darted right out in front of my car yesterday. I was taking a left turn on to a major street when I saw the small orange body and bright white tail bob of a fox trying to cross the street. First it darted to my left and then quickly turned around and headed back toward the right.
As this was going on my mind finally registered that it was a fox. My immediate thought was to miss it since it was a wild animal and I would receive a hefty violation if I flattened the thing.
Luckily, it continued running to the right and I missed it altogether. Even luckier was the car behind me was paying attention so when I braked they braked.
The fox had just come out of an area filled with prarie dogs. I’m guessing that he got tired of trying to catch one of these rodents (for breakfast) and was heading into our neighborhood to snatch up a fattened house cat as a snack.
Good to see that wildlife is still able to live among us humans in the Denver suburbs. I am glad I missed the animal and hope he enjoys thinning the herds of domestic felines in the Northpark area.
